Restoring Black Mangrove Forests at Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve

CRG’s hydrological restoration project will benefit 225 acres of mangroves between Goodland and Marco Island. Construction of SR 92 in 1938 blocked natural tidal flushing through Fruit Farm Creek causing the impounded mangrove forests to die out over time. CRG is working on a multi-phase project to clear drainage channels and install culverts with grants from US Fish & Wildlife Service and public and private partners.
